A note from Adam Gaffiero (Upper West director)
When Upper West was first conceived (originally under the name of back to basics) I set out to build a business model that focused on the basics, with quality and attention to detail the main focus. I understood then, and still understand the difficulty in sustaining this model in an environment as competitive as the construction industry, however I will not deviate from what is important to myself.
I believe my past experience has prepared me to embrace the most challenging of projects and feel very confident in delivering exactly what my clients have asked for.

I have known Adam for over 20 years, when the time came for me to renovate my little home in Yarraville he was the first (and only) person I spoke to.
Adam was extremely accomodating and helped me through the whole process, Adam was involved from the initial drawing stages and made the whole renovation experience a joyful one.
I was able to move in 4 weeks earlier than expected and could not be happier with my beautiful little cottage.
We were tossing up between a few builders for our renovation and then a friend introduced us to Adam, although he was tied up in another project Adam gave us some great advice and showed us what to look for in choosing a builder.
After a few months of still being undecided, Adams work schedule cleared up and he became available.
It was the best decision we could have made, Adam and his team were fantastic and did everything we asked (even when we changed our minds).
Our original 2 bedroom 1/2 bathroom home in Seaholme is now a beautiful architectural designed 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom masterpiece that Adam should be as proud of as we are.
We absolutely love our custom bespoke home! More than that, we appreciate all of the time and effort Adam and team put into working with us through the build process. Your patience during the planning and creative phases didn’t go unnoticed. Working through the creative process from poured in-situ concrete benches to hydronic heating floor channels was thoroughly enjoyable. The extra care and time taken by the core team and subcontractors was impressive as they worked to make each deadline. Extra time was taken during many walk throughs to make sure we had everything just the way we wanted it. Small changes or adjustments on the fly were not an issue at all. Throughout the whole building process Adam always let us know if anything affected our budget and we couldn’t be happier with the end result and the quality of the build.
Selling and buying a house is one of the most stressful things to do; we'd experienced this and were in the ring for the fourth time. We'd already sold our house and were actively searching for our new home (6 months later) in a competitive Altona market with limited supply.
We were amazingly fortunate to be introduced to Adam Gaffiero from Upper West, who was building two town houses in Blyth St. The floor plans were perfect for us and we were able to purchase before the construction was open to the market.
Our experience with Adam Gaffiero and his team has not been stressful at all and we cannot recommend Adam highly enough. Eight months later we are living in our dream house and everything Adam said he would do, he has followed through with.
We have found Adam to be honest, straightforward and consultative throughout our dealings.
We saw the house being built from the frame onwards and we know that no expense has been spared in respect to construction, from the timber beams in the frame to the upper story cladding which requires no maintenance - unlike render.
The house is clever with a smart design and the utilisation of space has been carefully considered. There is amazing storage in the house from tall kitchen cupboards to clever roof storage in the garage.
The whole house is light, bright and spacious with soaring ceilings and wide passage ways.
The butler’s pantry with sink is my favourite room in the whole house. You can cook to your hearts content and have no mess visible. I love it. The living space – inside and out, is warm and inviting and inherently practical.
Adam has been very accommodating with everything during the construction and purchase of 21 Blyth St and we are secure in the knowledge that the house has been well constructed with no expense spared and no short cuts taken. This is not a house from a mass manufacturing chain but lovingly constructed with quality products and built with pride. We feel like we've stepped into our own customised home and we couldn't be happier.
What more, we are blessed with a brilliant location; close to the beach, shops and station. We will be living here for a long time.
